This is why locals call this area “country,” as opposed to Town. The 7 miles of world class waves stretching between Haleiwa and Sunset is known to surfers as the “seven-mile miracle.” This area can resemble the other islands in its laid back feel and two-lane roads.

Living here makes it difficult to commute to Town, since the drive can be long and filled with traffic, depending on the time of day. The culture in this area is centered around surfing and the ocean. Because of its natural beauty and tranquility, living here is like living in a small town. That is, until the winter surf season comes. This sleepy area then transforms into a busy hub of visiting surfers and tourists.

There isn’t any malls in this area, and most of the small shops are geared towards tourists. There are two grocery stores, a hospital, and one high school in Waialua. For those who live here, the drive to Costco in Waipio is standard procedure, which can be a half-hour commute.
